An unincorporated area, Westchase is in northwest Hillsborough County, smack in the middle of Town ‘n’ Country, Oldsmar, and Citrus Park.
Developed out of scrubland in 1991, it has virtually no history, and it can be assumed that the name was just something
a (not very creative) marketer came up with. Here are parts of the developer’s welcome:
Westchase is a master-planned, deed restricted community encompassing over 2000 acres… easily accessible… award winning community boasts hundreds of acres of preserved land, an 18-hole public golf course, multiple parks, nature trails, a soccer field and two swim and tennis centers.
But there are people there, and they are doing lots of cool stuff besides golfing.
As of the 2000 census, there were 11,116 people in Westchase, of which nearly 87% are White, 5% African American, and 4% Asian. Hispanic or Latino of any race account for nearly 12% of the population.
The community is made up of seventeen different villages, with from apartments to gated communities. There are shopping areas, too – West Park Village Town Center, The Avenues, and the Publix Supermarket center cover the basics for the residents–retail shops, markets, cafes, banks, restaurants, professional offices, daycare, preschools, and coffee shops.
There is a monthly newsmagazine, World of Westchase that keeps residents informed as to the goings-on in each village, and a newly formed Westchase Area Business Association.
There are a couple of bloggers in the villages, including the Dumb Daddy Diaries, and Suburban Diva, and a pretty good website by the Westchase Artists Society. Of course, Westchase is also home to the offices of Dr. Nate and his Bright Eyes vision blog.
